Córdoba Patios: Viana Palace or a Guided Patio Walk?

The answer first
Choose Palacio de Viana when you want a reliable collection of courtyards in one address and freedom to move at your own pace. Choose a guided patio walk when you want lived-in neighbourhoods, local stories and help finding courtyards that may have limited opening. They complement each other, but most short visits only need one.
Two different experiences
Viana is a historic palace organised around twelve patios and a garden. Its entry ticket, listed from €8.50, is cheaper and more predictable than the two most-reviewed guided patio tours, which cost €19 and €20. You know where to go, and the architectural sequence works even outside the May festival.
A neighbourhood tour typically lasts around 90 minutes to two hours. The guide connects several private or community courtyards and explains how residents maintain them. Access depends on the selected route and season, so never assume a named patio is included unless the booking page lists it.
May and the rest of the year
Córdoba’s patio celebrations make May the most famous period, but also the busiest. Queues can reduce the quiet domestic character people imagine. Outside the festival, fewer private patios open, while Viana remains the dependable alternative. Check official festival dates and daily opening information for your travel year rather than relying on an old calendar.
Photography should be considerate: these are not merely decorative sets, and some courtyards are homes. Heat matters too. A morning walk is usually more comfortable than crossing exposed streets in the afternoon.
Our recommendation
Pick Viana Palace for a flexible first encounter or a visit outside festival season. Choose the guided patio walk in spring when resident stories matter more to you than covering the maximum number of courtyards.
